Preventative pediatrics stresses not only the avoidance of illness and disability, but also its early diagnosis and treatment, to lessen the chance of chronic disease.  We can now prevent several specific diseases if our recommended comprehensive care schedule is followed.  However, there are many illnesses in which immunity is acquired only by having the illness, and them building antibodies against it.  Therefore, it is to be expected that your child will have some colds, stomach viruses, sore throats, etc.  As with any illness there are a few specific measures, which help the body to “fight” the sickness, including getting more rest than usual, drinking plenty of fluids, and eating appropriately.
