If your child sustains a cut, try to stop the bleeding by applying firm pressure on the wound for 5 minutes. Irrigate with copious amounts of cool water. If you are not sure if stitches are needed, you should call the office and discuss with the nursing staff. If stitches are required, take your child to a Pediatric Urgent Care facility or Emergency Room. If there is dirt in the wound, or if it is a deep puncture wound, a tetanus booster may be required if more than 5 years has elapsed since the last tetanus vaccine.
